Foot Biomechanics

What is reflexology?

What is reflexology?

Did you know that your foot has approximately 150 different ways of movement?

Our feet have three main biomechanical functions:

  • to absorb shock
  • the foot is a rigid lever that propels the body forward
  • helps one adapt to different ground environments

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the body that map to other body parts and glands of the body.  Through applying pressure on these reflexes, this type of therapy can:

  • promotes relaxation and release of tension
  • improves lymphatic and cardiovascular circulation, drainage, and elimination
  • maintains or re-establishes the body's efforts to function optimally

Foot Care Tips

Use a foot cream daily, which helps to prevent skin infections.  The best time is after a bath or shower.

Clean your feet daily with soap and water, and lightly scrub your toenails with a nail brush.  Always dry thoroughly between the toes.

Put your feet up when possible; it is good for circulation.

Trim toenails after a bath or shower when the nail is softest.  Cut straight across, not cutting into the corners.
